Hi Paul & All,
Paul I can not comment about other software but the FBB system does as you describe and collect information from messages that are
sent through the system. This is a very good backup to collecting WP data.
If, however, as has already been mentioned on this forum SysOps all made their users complete the WP questionnaire before they are
allowed to continue then the data that is passed each night to neighbouring BBS would be updated with full data which would then be
passed on the next night to their neighbours etc. This would eventually be passed to all systems and replacing the collected data.
This all falls down when the neighbouring BBS does not support the WP method. This can be helped by skipping that system for the
update and point your update to the next system that does support it. Here in the UK we have a national WP server if all nations did
the same and all SysOps added this server to their nightly updates again this would assist in having accurate data.
IMHO. The national WP servers should also exchange data between them. I do not know if this already happens as I have not been
involved.
regards Ian

Subject: Re: [xfbb] Re: WP messages?
My BBS sends out WP updates every day. If I look at one of those updates,
there are a lot of entries that have "???" in the name and QTH fields. But
those entries are not from local users. Those entries appear to have been
collected from messages (both bulletins and private) that are forwarded through
my BBS. As far as I know, there is no standard in use to transmit/collect that
data from messages that originated elsewhere.
