[xfbb] PTC-II firmware version and XFBB ?

I am reinstalling Linux and FBB and I have found that the PTC does not
connect now, only puts a "X1 CALLSIGN" instead of "C CALLSIGN" on the
small display in front when accesing from the gateway or forcing fwd to
start (fw callsign or fr callsign).

Last time (before my old Linux 420 Mb HD died) it worked with firmware
v2.8, and I upgraded to v2.9 in the meantime, using an old 40 Mb HD with
MSDOS as my pactor terminal . I have also made hardware changes (serial
ports and video) and I am reinstalling from the ground up. Is it a bug on
v2.9, or a problem with the driver or UART (16550A)? Last time I was using
a 16450 UART.

There is something funny. ttyS1 is NOT LOCKED, while ttyS0 (mouse) is , as
well as ttyS3 (1200 baud packet port with ax25 utils support). It seems to
me that ttyS1 SHOULD BE locked (/var/lock/ttyS1). What am I missing ?

Now I am using RedHat 5.2, kernel 2.0.38, xd700g26 with y2k patch, and
direct support to the PTC-II using extended hostmode from FBB. Using XFBB
7.00g18 made no difference, so I would guess it is a firmware bug.

Any previous experiences ? Can anyone guess where is the bug or mistake ?
What may I have overlooked or forgotten ? I am running out of choices
...inittnc1.sys looks OK....gateway.sys also looks OK...

Running the XFBB daemon in the foreground, to observe what it does, it
looks for a init.pac file in the startup process that I can find nowhere
in my computer. Dows anyone know what is that, and what it is meant for ?

Anyone else using succesfully ptcv29 ? I repeat, ptcv28 was the last that
worked well for me. Would appreciate some help and your comments to sort
this out.

73, Jose

PS: It is puzzling because the 16550A DOES WORK, and FIFO is active under
MSDOS using PTPRO.EXE from SCS. It also works with Minicom as Linux
terminal, even when it does not support all what's available with the PTC,
but at least I can connect, read and send mail that way. Seems to me it
does rule out a hardware problem.

When it worked OK, it had ReHat 5.1, kernel 2.0.36, xd700g26, 16450
UART's, and PTC-II v2.8 firmware.
