    I think that you should be able to make hamlib visible to any apps by
    adding the non-standard location to /etc/ld.so.conf and running
    ldconfig.

    On the other hand, if you are running Debian, it is easier to just run
    'apt-get install hamlib2' (thanks Joop!)
