Another option is to use the ZipSlack distribution, which is a
subdirectory on the slackware server. When expanded it fits on a
100MB zip disk.
I started with this, added a few files from the 'X' set of floppies,
and that gave me enough to compile/run Xastir on a laptop. Did that
with Slackware 8.0, but I think the latest still has zipslack as
part of it.
I run FVWM2 in order to get a bit more speed out of old laptops.
KDE and Gnome really tax the CPU. FVWM2 does not.
