    Ok , here goes , back in the days when I was doing 9600 packet with tnc's ,
    it was a cardinal sin to use speaker audio out of the radio , as the
    deemphasis circuits in the receiver will ruin your eyepattern to the point of
    uselessness ( the term "group delay" comes to mind).

    In all the links I had worked with we always used discriminator out of the
    radio for rx audio...

    Now as I have never used the soundmodem utility yet maybe it performs some
    magic that will overcome this detail , but then again ... ;^}

    9600 is not very forgiving in comparison to 1200 which is very .
