SIOCSIFNAME doesn't really do what I think would be most useful.
Renaming the actual device to something arbitrary loses the value of having the
naming standard in the first instance. I guess I was looking more for an alias,
something to represent the device in some orthogonal namespace, which is pretty
much the function that the 'port_name' serves at the moment.
Perhaps it would make some sense to modify the existing tools to use/respect
the actual device name in any case.
