In my case it appears that I had some kind of hardware problem. I had
upgraded to 2.4.9-13 and when I went to compile a new kernel with the packet
stuff included I started getting errors. I fooled with memory which didn't
clear the errors. So I swapped in a different motherboard and processor. No
more errors and is up for about 2 days now. I'll look for the new rpm's :-)

I had problems with kernel 2.4.7 on RedHat 7.2; I wasn't able to keep
    a 12 hours uptime and I wasn't using the AX25 stuff. I updraged to
kernel 2.4.9-13 and didn't had a problem since then (2 days ago). You
may want to install the new kernel. It's available at:
    http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHSA-2001-142.html

RedHat released kernel 2.4.9-21 two days ago (certainly a few hours
    after I upgraded to 2.4.9-13...), I didn't tried it:
    http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHSA-2002-007.html

If you have troubles downloading from RedHat's ftp server, you can
    use this fast mirror:
    ftp://speakeasy.rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/updates/7.2/en/os/

    Hope this helps,
