Unlike AO-16/LO-19 (to name two examples), AO-40 is in a high elliptical
orbit and so you are talking not having to move your antennas except
maybe every thirty minutes or so. My antennas are moved by the
Armstrong method and sit on a small tripod on my balcony. It is not as
difficult as the LEO birds, doppler is present but changes at a very
low rate.
Compared to HF work it is much more exciting and the throughput is much
better.
I would urge readers on linux-hams to have a go with AO-40, it really is
very different and a lot of fun.
Ob Linux, my tracking program mtrack does a good job of tracking AO-40.
