Whilst it is true that (unfortunately) the PACTOR-II protocol is
proprietary, the extended host mode interface isn't.
I guess it's a bit like using a computer that has a proprietory BIOS, or a
processor controlled radio with proprietary firmware, etc.
Incidentally, PACTOR-I *is* open spec, as is AMTOR...my HF gateway
supports both modes as well.

It's not that I am too afraid of effort (we're Linux hams after all :-)
Anything that requires tracking beams is out for me...I am in a tiny city
appartment. I had a ball with AO16/LO19 with the TAPR PSK kitset
modem and home-brew preamp, various omni's and xverters while it
lasted.
If it wasn't for that, I'd be on AO40 now.
Anyway, I realise I am getting a bit off the LInux topic here...Coming
back to digital experiments on HF, I am happy to help with testing.
