    Hi Ted , if it were me I would go with the Elecraft K2 .
    It will do digital modes , QRP and has an excellent receiver .
    And the great part is you will feel proud about the fact that you built
    it yourself :)

    I don't use mine for digital modes , but I know it has been done .
    Since I finished mine my FT847 has been sitting in the corner gathering
    dust since I like the K2 rx much better ...
