    I'd suggest you do what I did, grab a second-hand IC706MkII (note, not MkIIg,
    apparently it's Tx/Rx switching time is slower) while they're still available
    and cheap. They're very popular amongst the digital HF guys, especially the
    PACTOR folk. There is an excellent IC706 support mailing list that regularly
    fields the sort of questions you're asking.
