Dont know what made me do it, but with everything running smooth with
the RH7.0 and linux-2.2.19 kernel, I had a inspiration and upgraded too
RH7.2 using the ext3 system. I also installed the latest ax25 tools, lib
and apps as well. I did manage to bring up Xfbb and jNOS but was having
mucho troubles with the PackeTwin dmascc0 56k port (even with the latest
tools).
With the DMA disabled on both port A & B using 'dmascc_cfg --dma 0' in
the rc.local config there were still warning messages and it seems not
to work on the xmit side of the handshake. I also got warning that
--speed, --txtime and --sqdelay settings were not available. I only use
Port A to drive a WA4DSY 56k packet modem (which worked great under the
2.2.19 kernel and the older dmascc_cfg binary).
I tried to correct some of the load errors by compiling the linux-2.4.16
release and was met with even more problems to a point where I could not
see the onboard NIC interfaces nor even load the CLX DXCluster
application.
I am running dual pentium II 400 cpu's with about 512meg of RAM with
plenty of hard drive space and onboard scsi ultrawide and wide
interfaces.
Was wondering if anyone else is having these troubles with the newer 2.4
kernel series?
Happy New Year
John
