I received several E-mails and such from those having the same problem. So, I
am sending this out to them and the mailing list. Here is the deal.

To get ax25-tools to compile requires certain versions for specific kernels
    and glibc versions.
My first attempt was ax25-tools-0.0.6, the version on hams.sourceforge.net,
with 2.4.5 kernel and glibc 2.2.3. This tools version included timer.h from
kernel source and had the list_head structure problem. Ok, I have Linux on
two hard drives and one of them is 2.4.0 kernel built from an older Slackware
distro. Also an older glibc. Same problem.

Ricardo, py3vhq, mentioned 0.0.8 version which I found and compiled under
2.4.0 older glibc. The list_head structure problem went away, but was
replaced by "unknown storage size" error concerning time_t type, which was a
typedef of __kernel_time_t., in mkiss.c. I also noticed that include timer.h
    was replaced with time.h

I then tried building tools 0.0.8 under 2.4.5 and glibc 2.2.3 and it
    BUILT...(Slackware 8.0 distro)

So, I guess the bottom line is you have to match kernels/glibc to a
particular tools version. If I wasn't a computer professional, I would have
    given up in disgust.

This is, in my consideration, a BIG problem with Linux. All the changes that
are made that break previous working programs. I now have wasted two nights
trying to get this to work due to not having exactly the right combination of
app version, kernel version and library version.

Now , later tonight, this may be the last pretty day for a while in East
Tenn., I will try to get it all working together into something useful.

Also for packet APRS program in tcl/tk that runs under Linux, Windows, etc,
and uses the free US Census on-line Tiger mapping service. Check out my home
