From my last two requests for help on this subject I have had replies from 3 people.
    Thierry F1TVE
    Nick Papadonis
Ed W3NR and I have thanked those kind gentlemen, direct.

The problem of no keying when attempting to use soundmodem 0.4 or 0.5 still has not been resolved
I have re-installed 7.2 two more times and have lost count of the variations of kernel re-compilation for ax25
If I manually key the tranciever at the appropriate times (try it some time), I can connet to our local BBS and download
messages. (hey what a way to use packet!!), so the basic functions of soundmodem are functioning ok. Just wont key.
This also proves that all other configurations are correct.
The serial port concerned is Com2 /dev/ttys1.
I have observed pins 4 and 20/25 with my CRO, and there is no sign of activity at the moment of keying.

The internet modem is functioning correctly on that same port (dev/ttyS1)
No. I am not trying to use them at the same time.

I find it hard to beleive that I am the only one with this problem. Yet only three replies ??.

Mabe there is not the expertise on this group to resolve this problem, even though the amount of data on netrom etc
    ,problems seems to indicate otherwise.
Or, perhaps all the people on this group all use TNC's so are not interested in the problem of trying to operate ax25
with a soundcard instead of a TNC.
If this is so then can anyone steer me to a group through which I might be better served.

    In frustration
    Regards de Kevin VK5OA
