Hello all,
This is a file that I have never really understood and up until now I have
ignored it completely. Packet connections have worked without the file but
the time between transmissions is longer than it should be, which is why I'm
taking a second look at it.
The first 7 parameters ending in "mode" look understandable but I don't know
what the executable file should be. Knowing what I use Packet for might make
the explanation easier.
I seldom use BBSs because I have to digipeat twice which further increases
the delay between transmissions which leads to the BBS eventually ignoring
me. This might not be a configuration issue because this problem did not
occur (as often anyway) where I was able to connect to a BBS through only
one digipeater.
My main interest in Packet is for space communication (ISS and PCSAT). The
long delay between transmissions means that I can only send a few calls
before the window of opportunity is closed.
Another problem is that I cannot see how I can transmit unconnected packets,
which is how stations seem to be able to send short "hello" style messages.
"Beacon" appears to be the only option available but, as everyone knows, it
doesn't work with the recent kernels. Is there another option?
I'm sorry if this is long-winded but a detailed explanation is necessary if I
am to avoid curt RTFM responses or responses unrelated to my predicament.
Also, bear in mind that I'm using the Baycom serial module (no TNC). Maybe I
should starve the wife for week so that I can then afford to buy a TNC.
