I don't think that's right. Debian was created originally by
Ian Murdock, who isn't a ham afaik. But one of our past project
leaders was Bruce Perens, K6BP. Bruce was very active in
promoting Debian and open source, and now works as an open
source consultant at HP. He is also a co-founder of "No Code
International".
We have quite a few developers who are hams.
