Have you tried downloading new sources for the kernel from kernel.org
and its mirrors?
We're up to 2.4.9 now, 2.4.2 is old news ;-).
(2.4.9 came out only about a week after 2.4.8, Linus is leaving on vacation
to his homeland Finland and wanted this one out there to test, etc)
