kernel-source-2.4.3-12
are available from Red Hat, but I don't think they are necessary upgrades.
Early 2.4 kernels had a problem with AX.25 support I believe, so it might
be best to upgrade, but I am not certain.
What I can tell you is that, devfs is the device file system, which is
marked experimental. Red Hat 7.1 supports it, but unless you explicitly
need it, you can disable it. It is located under "File systems" in kernel
config.
Am I correct in understanding that the boot process halts at this point
(the devfs errors), or does it continue? Are they any Oops or kernel panic
outputs?
The newest generic kernel is linux-2.4.7 available from
http://www.??.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/ where ?? is replaced by
the standard two-letter country code (e.g. us ca de au).
