    To the Software developers:

It would be most helpful is there was a -debug- mode that said
    something like:

    Looking for /etc/ax25/linpac.conf [ found | not found ]

I has this similar problem installing ax25 stuff. There were some
    dyslexic filenames and references.
    See: http://gelm.net/HOWTO-AX25-linux-kernel-2.2.x.html
To configure a linux box to use a standard TNC-2 clone, one needs:
    - glibc-2.1.x (or better?)
    - gmake
    - m4
    - libz or zlib (the doc's say one way, the actual file is spelled the other)
    - compile a kernel with the above applications and with the following
      flags set [minimum]: CONFIG_HAMRADIO, CONFIG_AX25, CONFIG_MKISS

    This was not intuitively obvious.

It took me several visits to the linux-hams list and lots of help from
the regulars, Tomi, Richard, Ray and others, before I was successful. :-|
