    I understand the use of rxecho and axdigi and thank everyone for their
    helpful responses. My problem is where the linuxbox in question belongs to
    somebody else on a different site (read remote site). I feel it should be a
    kernel issue (possibly user configurable).

    There is also rxecho, which can be configured to echo ethier all packets or
    selected callsign-ssids. Of course axdigi only works if the remote stn knows
    the exit interface callsign-ssid used on that system, however there are many
    programs that remember paths used, making life for the remote user easier.

    Of course the choise and preferal is up to the user in question.
