    That is because the error message has only a AX25/NETROM end-of-line at
    the end (a CR). Your shell prompt overwrites the beginning of it.

    One can pipe the output of netrom_call through tr '\r' '\n' if that is a
    problem. This might actually help John with the original problem as well.
