Yup - HDD was FDISKed to blank MBR wiped and clean install of RH 7.1 -
no other OS on the disk(or any other disk either) - Default runlevel of
3. He says he haden't started X yet. Just logged in to the console and
walked away from it.

Oh, I got one rather polite email saying this was off-topic for this
list. If so, applogies. Being this was a LINUX question, on a box going
to be used for HAM use - looked good to me.
