I have been banging away on a spare computer trying to get the usermode
soundmodem to work. At first I had upgraded Slackware 7.0 to a 2.4.5
kernel along with all the necessary other upgrades to run it. This
produced a result much like another person was commenting on here, the
soundcard part works perfectly, but the PTT only flickers very briefly the
first time it tries to transmit. After that I couldn't even get the
flicker.
Since the other poster reported success with a 2.2 kernel, I reinstalled
Slackware 7.0 and upgraded the kernel to 2.2.19. Everything compiled okay
(I had to add the <sys/time.h> in a few places) and at first seemed great.
However, the usermode soundmodem now will receive until I transmit
something, then not receive anything again. The RX count in ifconfig
doesn't incrememnt, nothing. If I kill then reload the soundmodem program
it again repeats the above cycle.
An interesting side-effect, I have an LED on the DTR pin of the serial
port I'm using so I can watch the DCD, and it doesn't light up when
receiving normally, then comes on and stays on after the first
transmission.
I had also compiled the modules for the kernel soundmodem, so I then tried
that and it works just fine. No problems with using it, but I was hoping
to experiment with the other one!
Is there something I am missing with the usermode version? I haven't
found any documentation that plainly states just what needs to be done
to get it going, just went banging away at things to get the results I
have thus far!
What I'm using:
Slackware 7.0 w/ 2.2.19 kernel
libax25-0.0.7
ax25-tools-0.0.8
ax25-apps-0.0.5
soundmodem-0.4
P-100 with a Sound Blaster 16 and a DigiBoard PC/8 (the dumb version) for
serial ports.
Thanks,
