Seriously, the compiler complained about certain symbols and those symbols
are declared in stdio.h (that is said in the C standard -- or one can also
for example try "man perror").

Probably because of differencies in libraries and headers files between
your system and the one used by the developer. Some other header file may
have been indirectly including stdio.h for the developer so he didn't see
any errors.
This _can_ be seen as an programmer error if one wants but it is a very
difficult one to avoid completely.
