    Tom, thanks for the reply. That implies that I need to have the
    parport module installed, or if building into the kernel, selecting the
    parport option... is that correct?

    And, I'm guessing that the 2.2.x kernels (which I'm running) would use
    the proc file for setting... there is a parport tree with appropriate
    filenames in it.
