    Just a SWAG on my part - I ran into a similar problem getting a modem to
    work awhile back.

    My solution was to add a line at the end of /etc/rc.d/rc.local with
    setserial in it (RH 6.2).

    setserial /dev/ttyS2 IRQ=5

    or something like that, I don't think I've got the syntax right there -
    the man page for setserial is quite helpful. I've since upgraded to RH
    7.0 and a new box - don't have that config prob anymore.

    When the system booted and my modem on /dev/ttyS2 (Dos' com3) was using
    a non-standard IRQ, the system found the I/O addy, but couldn't find the
    IRQ. Running setserial at every boot fixed that.

    Maybe for you too?
