This has to be a dumb user configuration error, but I'm trying to get a
picpar96 modem running with no luck. Any attempt to set up the modem
via "ifconfig bcp0" returns an error that "parport at 0x378 has no
irq". If I try to specify an irq on either an insmod command, or using
sethdlc, it tells me that irq is an invalid parameter type -- which
leads me to believe that it autoprobes the IRQ.
I think the modem is being found, as doing "sethdlc -p -i bcp0" returns
a report of "mode picpar io 0x378". That's the correct io for the
port. Somehow, the thign isn't latching onto IRQ 7.
This is a laptop machine with parallel port running in standard mode
and all power saving features turned off. I don't have any other
parallel port modules installed, and /proc/interrupts doesn't list IRQ
7 at all.
The same machine and modem work fine using the DOS baycom program, so I
don't think it's a hardware problem.
Help!
