For 9600 I do:

yamcfg yam0 io 0x3f8 irq 4 bitrate 9600 txdelay 150 txtail 10
slottime 20 persist 40 load 9600 /usr/local/lib/yam/yam96v13.mcs

And for 1200:

yamcfg yam0 io 0x3f8 irq 4 bitrate 1200 txdelay 250 txtail 30
slottime 200 persist 40 load 1200 /usr/local/lib/yam/yam12v11.mcs
