I am running aprsd on a machine that's remote from the radio that sits
on the APRS rf channel. The remote machine uses digi_ned's cross-port
digi and digi string manipulation capabilities to put the APRS data
onto a shared 19.2kbps UHF channel. The aprsd machine uses digi_ned to
pick out the APRS packets (by next-digi call) from the other traffic
on the channel, and then sends them to aprsd using the pipe I described.
The same process works for packets from the Internet that aprsd forwards
to the RF channel. I don't have all the bugs worked out yet, but it
    generally works.
