Thanks, one and all, for all the help in installing and configuring
AX.25 in kernel-2.2.16. I plan to upgrade my packet BBS' kernel
    (from 2.0.37 to 2.2.1x) and add AX.25 to a KISSed TNC-2 clone.
I don't want to shut down a running system and spend a long time
installing and configuring, so I am developing a HOWTO
procedure to guide me through this task so that I can complete
    it in a single event.

    http://gelm.net/HOWTO-AX25-linux-kernel-2.2.x.html

I was suprised to find that more programing/compiling skill is
needed to utilize a KISSed TNC-2 clone with a linux application,
than I have needed thus far in my linux experience:
    installing, configuring, compiling
     kernels 1.2.13, 2.0.x, 2.2.x
     applications netwatch, apache
     and IP-MASQuerade.
i.e. I have not needed a knowledge of 'compiling options' thus far.
However, this is subjective and only applies to me.

There are two issues that still disturb me:

    1. That there is no AX25-HOWTO for kernel 2.2.x.
(However, everything necessary can be found by
inquiring on the 'linux-hams' mail list.

    2. Omissions/errors in the documentation for ax25-tools-0.0.6
        in regard to using 'kisssattach'
        to create an AX.25 device/interface:
It is not mentioned in .../ax25-tools-0.0.6/README
or .../INSTALL where 'kissattach' is looking for
'axports'. However, thanks to the linux-hams
mail list, the solution was made manifest.

    IOW, in this specific example;
'RTFM' does not seem to be a solution.

    Very Best Regards, Chuck nc8q
