You can try checking out
http://www.jmbnet.iinet.net.au/linux/soundcardpacket.htm
for some of my VERY rough notes on setting up a sound card in linux as a
packet modem. I have run this very successfully on several different kernel
versions now (2.0.36, 2.0.35, 2.2.15, 2.2.17), but you will have to know how
to compile a linux kernel and set the options using cd /usr/src/linux, make
menuconfig etc., make dep, make clean, make bzImage etc etc. The most
difficult problem I found, was getting 'unresolved symbols' errors, which is
just due to the modules in the kernel not being installed correctly and in
the correct order. Once the kernel is compiled, the startup scripts I use
are on the page above for you to check out. I have run both 1200 and 9600
bps quite successfully with a Soundblaster 16, Soundblaster Pro, Beethoven
PSS card and ESS688 card.

James

AX25-Howto many times but I am still not confident that I could set it up
proprely, and it also looks to be a bit outdated. Thanks
