    This would need support from the kernel AX.25 layer. Kernel would need to
    gather the data and provide it for user level applications like node.

    You didn't mention what kernel version you use now (the utils version is
    really rather unrelevant here) but the kernel side of the AX.25 stuff has
    really changed very little lately. Chances are there are only bug fixes
    compared to what you are running now.

    This stuff has been discussed here about a million times and I assume you
    are aware of all the aspects. There are some more or less
    perfect workarounds and those have been discussed here several times also
    so I'm not going to repeat.

    To answer your question: this is a kernel issue, not a utils issue. In
    this respect I don't think anything has changed since day one of kernel
    AX.25.

    (BTW You the connection should not freeze in a situation you describe even
    without workarounds but you need to be aware of the risks that the welcome
    message etc. cause to netrom interlink connections.)

    Implementing this at node level (node as in "node" the user level program
    written by me) would be easy and I can not see any downsides to
    implementing it. I'll add this to my todo list.
