I 'bit the bullet' and removed all lines that contained 'hdlc'
from the 'Makefile'. 'make' ran without any complaints.

I was overwhelmed with them. I don't mean that I got many,
just that the ones I got baffled me. I just don't understand why
the 'ax25-utils-2.42a' is allowed to stay broken. :-| I would have
thought that the maintainers would have fixed it by now. :-(
