To activate a network device with kernel 2.2/2.4 you have
to assign an IP address to the interface. This is done using
the "ifconfig" command, e.g.:
/sbin/ifconfig ax0 44.130.52.88 hw ax25 dg4iad up
Replace "ax0", "44.130.52.88", and "dg4iad" by your network
device, your ip adress and your callsign. Do the same
for the "nr0" interface (netrom). Or use ax25-config which
does all these things for you <shameless plug>.
This isn't necessary with 2.0 kernels or the NEW-AX.25
protocol stack.
