            At this point I have "/usr/local/bin/smdiag -i sm0;
    /usr/local/bin/smmixer -i sm0 s=mic i=0
            also "/usr/local/sbin/sethdlc -i sm0" (note: no other parameters) at
    the end will enable you to immediately see packets as they are received.
