    soundmodem supports 1200 AFSK just fine. I use it at home.

    Perhaps it is not easy to set up, but it is quite reliable once
    configured. I have not had any problems running smdiag on linux 2.2.12,
    although I did not try to compile it with that kernel (but used an older
    binary). I think Craig has said it will return in the next ax25-tools.

    Yes this a real problem. Somebody needs to work on it; it's open source,
    so it doesn't have to be Tom. Ideally, it would work with the
    standard sound drivers (either OSS or ALSA).
