    Thank you Tomi,
a very "enlightening" reply, however it failed to answer my question.

I had in fact read the message I quoted, I am not in the habit of
    quoting unread messages.
    It says
"the version of ax25utils is too old for RH6.x"
Good information - however it fails to point out a source tree that will
    compile with Rh 6.x.

    it then continues with
"for 2.2 kernels, you should download ax25-apps, ax25-tools libax25 from
ftp://ftp.hes.iki.fi/pub/ham/linux/ax25/ and install them as instructed"

wonderful, however this if still not an answer to my question.

the README for fbb says in part

" 1/ Compiling xfbbd and its utilities :
    --------------------------------------
    - goto fbbsrc/src drectory
    - update the variables at the beginning of both Makefile, depending of
    your
configuration. This must point to the ax25-utils include and
    librairies.
Be sure to use at least the version 2.1.37b of ax25-utils."

Hence the reason for my question.

Jean-Paul says I need at least the version 2.1.37b of ax25-utils. which
is why I am looking fo one that will compile on RH6.x

It appears from the repilies I have seen that others are searching for
the same. Am I to assume that FBB for Linux does not run on RH6.x?

    John

Nowhere. Please _read_ the message you quoted.
