Maybe because it's an entirely different wheel. 802.11 MAC with
signal metering could form the basis for a coordinated channel access
algorithm, but in itself it does not prevent you from colliding with
a station you do not hear. It may shorten the collision, but unless
you use massive redundancy the whole packet will still be destroyed,
so it does not solve the problem. Neither does it allow for adaptive
modulation in the presence of qrm.

I'm not saying it's no good, just that a lot of problems remain.
