For various reasons, I have been off packet tcp/ip for some time but now
plan to resurrect my system and wish to investigate the options.
I now want to investigate the kernel based systems, having previously run
both JNOS and TNOS under Linux and earlier WNOS under DOS. Before trying
to re-invent the wheel, I seek advice on the following points.
1. Distribution. I have to hand both RedHat 6.0 with various 2.2
kernels and Debian 2.1 with appropriate kernels. I am more used
to RH6.0 but am inclined to go with Debian.
2. Instruction. I have the AX25 HOWTO but understand that this is a
little out-of-date and that Gerd (?) has produced a German
version that is somewhat more current. I could translate this,
but my German is rather rusty (to say the least!). I have a
couple of non technical German speaking friends or could use a
translator on the net.
The hardware may be a 486DX4-100 with a USCC (Baycomm) card with a 1200
and 9600 baud "TNC's". The system will be IDE based with a 3Com NIC.
Any help and particularly mentoring will be greatfully received.
