It sounds like you have not assigned an IP address to the soundmodem
interface (sm0). You must assign one, even if it will never be used. You can
use anything you want; I suggest 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.255.1 or something
harmless. I found that when the soundmodem was used without an IP,
other connections would be affected (eg my ethernet).
