The above won't quite do what you wanted, since it will replace
each white space sequence on any line with a single space. Try
it with the following input sequence:

Q> echo " Testing . Testing ..." | test

Here's one that avoids that and other similar problems:

Q> #!/bin/sh
Q> cat >> /somedirectory/$1
