soundmodem-support for glibc ?

I'd love to use the ax25-utilities package, for soundmodem-support, but
in newer linux-distibutions

(I got SuSE 6.0, kernel 2.0.36) the glibc is set as default,
therefore:

ax25-utils-2.1.42a.tar.gz > do not compile at all, since they need
libc5

ax25-utils-2.1.42b.tar.gz > i don't know what's different in that
package, but still does not work.

ax25-utils-2.1.42.glibc.tar.gz > do compile, but important tools
like "setcrystal" won't work.

Any help or ideas whom I might contact ?

I'd appreciate an answer.
