Soundmodem works ok in Linux with ESS1868 and ESS1869 !
If yor BIOS not initialize the soundcard you must use ISAPNP.
I attach the file /etc/isapnp.conf for ESS1869.
You must run isapnp befor 'modprobe soundmodem' ( the soundmodem must be
compiled as module)
