Newbie Q: Can't connect via call

Hi,

sorry if this is a dumb question. I've just set up AX.25 stuff on my
machine, and it _looks_ as if it works... only, I can't reach anybody via
call(1). listen(1) will happily give me all the traffic that is going on,
but if I call out, nobody answers me. Could anybody tell me what I'm
doing wrong? Here is an excerpt from listen (ML1TDN is me):

[snip]

Port radio: AX25: KACITY->DUW1AS-15 <I C S1 R1> pid=Text
0000 Der Dumme Spruch zum schluá!.----------------------------.Schurk

Port radio: AX25: KACITY->DUW1AS-15 <I C S2 R1> pid=Text
0000 en glauben es leicht,daá andere es sind...Tsch.á Michael...vy 73

Port radio: AX25: DUW1AS-9->DKA1CS <RR R R1>

Port radio: AX25: DKA1CS->DUW1AS-9 <I C S1 R0> pid=Text
0000 ,de DKA1CS .Logoff Ch 1, 23:57, Dauer:00:12 .

Port radio: AX25: DKA1CS->DUW1AS-9 <D C P>

Port radio: AX25: ML1TDN->KACITY <C C P>

Port radio: AX25: ML1TDN->KACITY <C C P>

Port radio: AX25: ML1TDN->KACITY <C C P>

[snip]

etc. ad nauseam. I've tried this with a number of other callsigns
beside KACITY; no reply.

Since I am an absolute beginner wrt HAM, I have no idea what other
things (logs, /proc stuff, /etc/ax25 stuff) to include, so if some
information is missing, please tell me.

Thanks in advance,
