LinuxNode does not use _any_ kind of terminal emulation. The only thing it
does is that it tries to negotiate local echo and linemode with the telnet
client. If the client doesn't support this then tough luck. Get a decent
telnet client.
What however sounds strange is "no question mark". Do you really mean that
all other characters get sent and (locally) echoed but not the question
mark? That sounds really strange.
