Redhat 5.1's netcfg stuff would set that up too. In other words, the slattach
functionality is present in 5.1, you just have to comply with their model
of administering the system to use it.
Look at the netcfg command. Select Interfaces tab. Select Add, see
the interface type radio buttons pop up: PPP,SLIP,PLIP,Ethernet,Arcnet,
Token Ring, Pocket(ATP).... Then look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/*sl0
to see what the GUI did so next time you can do it without the GUI:-)
In ifup-sl you'll see that dip is used.
Then, to continue with the Redhat religion, do this:
