oak.oakland.edu hasn't gone away. As I recall, the original SIMTEL site
was located at an army base. oak.oakland.edu was one of its mirrors and
is now the primary simtel mirror, and there is also a ftp.simtel.net.
Several years ago the army site became unaccessible to the general public.
This is what I was referring to. (I may have it wrong, but that is what I
was told).
