Looking for libpq.so

I'm trying to install CLX and have been following the instructions
to the T. I learned recently by experience that Gee, the ax25 stuff
really does work if you RTFM before you try installing it. Anyway, I
went thru the process including where you add the library included with
postgres which is named libpq.so.1.
Problem is when I try to fire up CLX the first error I get says:
.../bin/psql: can't load library 'libpq.so'

So, am I missing something ? should a link be in there like libpq.so ->
libpq.so.1 ???
What did I miss ?
