Oh sigh.... This has GOT to get put in some FAQ somewhere!

No no no no no! Just enable NLS support and you will magically
discover iso9660, msdos FAT and windows VFAT have reappeared. They've
added some National Language Support which VFAT and iso9660 (with MS
Joliet extensions) can use so they made the iso9660 and *FAT file systems
dependent on enabling NLS. Right or wrong, that's what got done. You
want iso9660, FAT (msdos), or VFAT (Windows 95) file systems, you have to
enable NLS first. Some people have said that you do NOT have to enable
any NLS CodePages, but I always enable CodePage 437 (American / ANSI English)
so I really can't verify the viability of NLS support with no code pages
enabled.
It's actually pretty obvious if you are using "make xconfig" because
all of the "disabled" options are in greyed-out, but readable, boxes and you
can then poke around and get immediate feedback of the dependencies.
Unfortunately "make config" just skips options where the prerequisites are
not met, so you don't get to see what you are missing. Can't say which way
"make menuconfig" falls in that regard.
