The redirect you are using should work, it does here on my machine, i use
listen -8ica -pscc3 2>&1 &>/dev/tty8 &
As to the screen problem, i had a small problem where i was only getting the
trace in 3 quaters of my screen, i was starting listen and then changing
the font from default to alt-8x14, changing the font before starting listen
solved the problem. Could you also be doing something simeler ??.
